Some quick things:
- I love chocolate and skittles and anything sweet.
- I absolutely adore traveling, especially to the beach where I can relax with a piña colada in my hand.
- I play lacrosse, and I can never seem to get enough of it.
- I AM one of the loudest Caps hockey fans at their games (just find me in my white Laich jersey and you will see).
- I have far too many boots in my closet.
- I can never turn down a great over sized bag to put everything in (I wish I could find the bag that Mary Poppins had).
How I started:
It started innocently; as my plump little fingers curled around crayons, paint brushes, pencils, anything that created color. My family called me fingers Watkins, because my fingers were always busy with drawing or playing with my dad’s computer. In high school, art and technology were joined in the form of a camera. My childhood passions were transformed in a photography class. During college, photography was put on the back burner because of classes, lacrosse practices, and games, but my camera was always nearby.
The first wedding I shot was my best friend’s wedding. Jon and Katie were high school sweethearts. They always joked that I would shoot their wedding one day, and Jon would be the DJ at mine. Leading up to the day, I had no idea what to expect or if I would even like being a wedding photographer. I read as much as I could to try to prepare myself. Their wedding day came and I instantly fell into a groove. At the end of their reception at the local roller-skating rink, I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I had fallen in love with photography all over again.
Growing up, I always said, I wanted to be a doctor, a dentist, or a psychologist. I wanted to help people and make them smile. What I didn’t expect was that I could do that with an art form. When Jon and Katie saw their wedding photographs, that is exactly what I had done. I helped them capture the precious, wonderful moments and emotions of their wedding day. The day they received their photos, they cried and they smiled. For Jon, Katie, and for the generations that follow them, we had captured their laughter, love, joy and smiles. We had created art by capturing light in a funny little box made of metal, plastic, and glass.
Since Jon and Katie’s wedding, I have photographed many other events, engagements and weddings. I love meeting each couple and the spontaneity of each event. Photography is my profession.
