Assisting the best way to learn about photography on the job and gaining experience. Assistants do not need to have photography experience.
Photo assistants jobs may include setting up reception/event lighting, setting up portrait lighting, holding light modifiers, helping with the coordination of family formal portraits, and several other tasks during a wedding day, event, or portrait session. These are typically not "shooting" positions.
Those with a substantial amount of photography experience with several photographers and the proper equipment may be asked to be a second photographer for an event or wedding, or they may be referred to other photographers in the region who are looking for an assistant or second.
