Ohhhhhh Katy...YOU'RE ENGAGED! AH! IT HAS HAPPENED! Please excuse me while I happy dance all over the place. If the rest of you don't know, Katy has been my partner in crime on many shoots in recent history, and now she's my engaged partner in crime! Andrew is a drummer/musician extraordinaire down in good ol' Tennessee. They met while on a photo shoot for the band he is currently in, If Birds Could Fly. Soon after that, they were smitten. She may be living in Maryland. He may be living in Tennessee. But they don't let that stop them. At the end of August, Andrew dropped down to one knee at the top of Annapolis Rock in Maryland and popped the question. Before saying yes, Katy (being the photographer that she is) had to take a photo.
Katy and Andrew came out to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia for their engagement session. We hiked all over town and all the way up to Jefferson Rock for photos. We ended the day at St. John's Episcopal Church Ruins.
Katy and Andrew- I CANNOT WAIT for your OBX wedding in September!!
Here are a few of my favorites from their session and make sure to check out the end for a behind the scenes photo:
A quick behind the scenes photo from the church ruins in Harpers Ferry:
1/200 sec at f/3.2 ISO 200. Shot with a Nikon 35mm 1.4G on a Nikon d3s
Lyndsey is holding the key light- a 30" Lastolite Ezybox with a Nikon SB-910 Speedlight (1/8 Power). Directly behind Katy and Andrew is two more SB-910s. One is on a lightweight light stand with no diffuser zoomed all the way out and pointed directly at the couple for rim light (1/4 power). The other is on a Manfrotto Justin Clamp on the ground with the factory diffuser pointed straight up to illuminate the ruins behind them. All speedlights were triggered with PocketWizards. With the high shutterspeed and low ISO, I killed alot of the ambient light in the ruins to make the light from the speed lights more prominent. This also allowed the dusk sky to have an amazing color gradient naturally.
A HUGE thank you to Lyndsey for hiking all over Harpers Ferry with me and just being amazing!!
